Hey, how’s things!?
I’ve just gone through an important and fun part of story telling, naming my ‘baddy.’
I love words, obvs, but I also love art and visuals.
As a visual person, I like to have things drawn out, tangible images that I can really relate to. When I’m writing it really helps me to draw up a character profile, I use Scrivener for my writing, so I create the profiles in there too.
It lists the name, characteristics, appearance and main ‘purpose’ of my characters. I then import a random picture from Google of someone I ‘see’ in that role.
(Not sure if there’s a better way to find faces for names, especially if I want to share my ideas with you. I’m not sure the inter-web strangers would appreciate being linked with my people!)
It’s fun creating brand new people, it breaks up the long spells of storytelling, and helps me to really embrace and grow to love (or hate in a good way) my people.
The dilemma, do I tell you, will that spoil the suspense of the book?
Well, seeing as you’re an insider, and I’m sure you’ll guess anyway, I can tell you… right?
So, do you want to know, or would you prefer to find out as the story unfolds?
