Guest Interview – Therapist and Mental Health Blogger – Heather LeGuilloux

This week, I’ve been lucky to meet and chat with a woman working both offline, and online as a therapist and mental health blogger. Her work’s in a difficult, massively important, no doubt highly rewarding area of mental health. She’s a positive, inspirational influence, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy this chat and her resources.

I’m sure you’ll check out her resources but first let’s get to her just a little bit better.

Hi, great to chat! Please give my readers a quick introduction to you, where you live and what you do

Hi there! Thanks for having me on your blog. My name is Heather and I am a therapist and mental health blogger living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I currently work with youth who are needing a safe space to talk or explore options for their mental health or situational concerns. It’s a tough but fulfilling career to support young people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Something you love about your home town, and why people should come visit

My hometown is Kelowna, British Columbia which is located in the Okanagan Valley and is often known as the Napa Valley of Canada because of the perfect growing conditions for vineyards. Okanagan Lake makes this area a fantastic spot to visit in the summer for so many fun activities like swimming or boating and in the winter there are lots of mountains nearby to try your hand at winter sports like snowboarding or skating.

What do you wish you knew when you were a teenager

As a young person, I wish I knew more about the importance of critical thinking and making choices based on logic rather than emotion.. easier said than done as a young person but I now know that when it comes to finances or career direction, it can be helpful to take a step back and pause before making a choice!

Would you tell us about something or someone in your life, that motivates you each day?

I have always seemed to be a motivated individual and I believe it comes from having a passion to help others in their lives.

That being said, sometimes I need to slow down and focus more on myself rather than putting others first, and I’m still working on that balance.

Who is one of your online mentors, why they inspire you and how can people find them

At the moment I am obsessed with Marie Forleo. She was named by Oprah as a thought leader for the next generation and works to ‘shows you practical ways to become the person you most want to be’ and is the host of MarieTV. I highly recommend checking out her website www.marieforleo.com especially if you’re looking to grow as a person. She is a powerhouse of positivity!

An ambition you haven’t achieved yet

To achieve financial freedom in order to live my life to the fullest while also being able to give back even more to others.

How do you keep fit and healthy

It’s a struggle since I work a desk job so I try to remind myself to get up and go for walks, keep hydrated and prepare healthy snacks ahead of time.

Coffee 🙂

You’re having a dinner party and invite 3 people, living or dead. Who do you invite and why

My maternal grandfather – he passed away when I was only 10 years old and my memories and stories from family all indicate that he was an extraordinary individual. I wish I had more time to get to know him better. Maya Angelou – she had an extraordinary life and was so self-sacrificing. I feel I could learn a lot from her experiences. And Princess Diana – again an individual whose life was dedicated to serving and supporting others.

And now it’s all about you…

Something people don’t know about you

I lived in Australia for almost 5 years while I received my Masters of Counselling degree, traveled and worked as a therapist. It was a great experience!
