Guest Interview – Meet Emma Schwartz, Entrepreneur and SEO Expert
Hi, this week I’m excited to continue my Creatives Series with a chat with Emma Schwartz, another ambitious entrepreneur working in the online world!
Please give my readers a quick introduction to you, where you live and what you do
Hey! I’m Emma Schwartz, I’m an SEO Consultant from the UK. I live in Bury, Lancs.
I help businesses get more traffic to their website by increasing their search engine ranking. My strategies are very content focussed which I really enjoy as I’ve always loved writing. I love what I do as I get to be creative as well as focussing on the more technical side of website optimisation.
Something you love about your home town, and why people should come visit
I have always lived in the same town all my life. I actually live a couple of streets away from my childhood home so I really haven’t ventured very far!
What do you wish you knew when you were a teenager
I wish I knew that I didn’t have to strive to be perfect all the time. I wasted so much time overthinking and trying to achieve an unattainable level of perfection. Trying to be perfect all the time can actually hinder your creativity, it’s far better to embrace your flaws than worry about them.
Would you tell us about something or someone in your life, that motivates you each day?
My family are my main motivation. I am so grateful for their support as I embark on my journey of running my own business. It hasn’t been without its challenges and I’d really struggle without such a strong support network around me.
Who is one of your online mentors, why they inspire you and how can people find them
I don’t actually have a go to person that really inspires me. I spend a lot of time searching for inspiration, it seems to come from the unlikeliest of places.
An ambition you haven’t achieved yet
Financial and creative freedom to earn money on my own terms, the ability to work from anywhere in the world.
How do you keep fit and healthy
I make time to go out for a walk every day, quite often it’s late at night after I’ve finished working. I do attempt to go for a run sometimes but usually it’s more of a long walk, I prefer walking to running! I also try to follow a healthy diet and plan healthy snacks in advance.
Quickfire Quiz
Favourite fiction book
I enjoy futurism, fantasy, time travel and sci fi. I also enjoy period novels and historical fiction so my tastes are quite varied. I don’t have a specific favourite.
Favourite non-fiction / biography
I don’t read many biographies and non fiction books although I probably should do.
(Christie: Get onto Goodreads and start finding some inspirational books, you can never read enough!)
Favourite writer
Not many people know this about me but I really enjoy Catherine Cookson novels.
Favourite quote
“Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
I think this is a Steve Jobs quote. I worked for Apple for a number of years and this quote sticks in my mind. It has a good vibe to it.
Favourite city and/or country (other than your hometown)
I haven’t really done much travelling but I like scenery and open countryside. I’ve always wanted to go to Canada so this is on my to do list.
Favourite building
Home. Best place in the world.
Favourite film
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
(A massively iconic film, now on the study curriculum)
Favourite piece of music / song
Le Onde by Ludovico Einaudi.
I discovered this years ago and it’s still one of my favourite things to listen to. Very calming, especially after a long day.
Your guilty pleasure
Pizza! I also love Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (not ideal being lactose intolerant)
You’re having a dinner party and invite 3 people, living or dead. Who do you invite and why
My grandparents who are no longer with us. We’d have a good chat over dinner and it would be nice for them to have got the chance to meet their great grandchildren.
And now it’s all about you…
Something people don’t know about you
I have a degree in Film Production. Filmmaking is something I really enjoy but I didn’t end up pursuing this as a career. Things don’t always work out the way you initially expect them to.
Share a link, any you like, that you think will amuse, inspire or motivate the community
This article from The Independent talks about successful people who failed before they found success. I’m often held back by a fear of failure and it’s inspiring and motivating to read that some of the most successful people in the world failed before they succeeded. You often only hear about people’s success stories and you don’t get to see the journey and failures along the way.
